Nacapoy sharp at, behind plate


Former CV catcher yet to commit error this year; Bistagne putting together solid season at Lee.

GLENDALE — The following are updates on area athletes at the collegiate level.

Chad Nacapoy (Crescenta Valley High, 2007) freshman catcher, BYU baseball: The former Falcons four-year varsity backstop went three for five at the plate with three runs batted in and his first home run of the season on Friday to help the Cougars snap a five-game losing streak with a 22-0 drubbing of Air Force at the United States Air Force Academy in Colorado.

Nacapoy also hit his second double of the year, raising his batting average to .353.

BYU is 16-26 on the season (6-9 in Mountain West Conference play), during which Nacapoy has appeared in 12 games without making an error behind the plate.


Brian Bistagne (St. Francis High, 2006) shortstop, Lee University baseball: Bistagne had a big day at the plate on Friday to pace the Flames in a 13-8 win over Reinhardt College in an Southern States Athletic Conference Tournament game at Faulkner College in Montgomery, Ala.

The former Golden Knight, who also played two seasons for Glendale Community College, went four for five with three runs scored, three RBIs and two stolen bases.

On the year, Bistagne is batting .402 with six home runs and 57 RBIs. He has doubled 14 times in 57 games started at shortstop for the Flames (53-7, 23-4 in conference) and is third on the team with 21 stolen bases.

Lee has three games remaining in its regular season.

Andrew Marquardt (St. Francis High, 2006) outfielder, Cal State University Monterey Bay: Marquardt went two for four in a 10-4 loss to Western Oregon on Friday in Monmouth, Ore. to bring his season batting average up to .355 (49 for 138), the highest mark on the team for a player with at least 75 at bats.

The former Vaquero also drove in a run and scored in the game.

Marquardt has appeared in 45 games this season for the Otters (13-37, 7-27 in conference) and has recorded 25 RBIs to go along with 23 runs scored, 10 doubles and one home run.

Michelle Summers (Hoover High, 2004) senior third baseman, Southeast Missouri State softball: Summers extended her hitting streak to five games on Saturday, going three for four with two RBIs in a 6-5 win in the opener of a doubleheader with Tennessee-Martin at Southeast Softball Complex.

The Redhawks scored the winning run on a single by Summers in the bottom of the seventh inning.

It was the team-high 19th multi-hit game of the season for Summers, who is batting .395 with team-highs of 13 home runs, 40 RBIs and 38 runs scored.

Southeast Missouri State is 24-25 on the season with a record of 11-13 in Ohio Valley Conference play with just three games remaining on its regular-season schedule.
