Open auditions for “Once Upon a Mattress” will continue from 6 to 9 p.m. today at Hoover High School, 651 Glenwood Road, according to Stepping Stone Players spokeswoman Susan Kussman.
The Stepping Stone Players, a nonprofit organization, is now in its ninth season of producing Broadway-quality musicals by encouraging the participation of professionals, amateurs, and everyone in between.

Kathy Van Houten, Hoover High School PTSA president, reminds everyone that the Hoover Street Scene is scheduled for 3 to 8 p.m. Saturday.
Admission is $5, food and game tickets are 50 cents, and raffle tickets are $1. The grand prize is $1,000.

TOLL MIDDLE
Shirley Cuentas, Toll Middle School PTA president, congratulates the newly elected Toll PTA executive board for the 2008-2009 years. Margaret Hall will be the new president. Vice presidents include Melody Moradi, Sara Kosravi, Fran Mills, Bill Hall and Maria Iezza.
Raquel Grecius will be the secretary. Pam Sorem has accepted the position of treasurer.
Ardine Novashadyan will serve as auditor.
The new historian will be Susanna Garamanoukian. Cuentas invites everyone to attend the Toll Open House from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday. The In-N-Out Burger truck will be on campus at 5:30 p.m.

BALBOA ELEMENTARY
The Spring Fling was a great success, said Sara Khosravi, PTA president. Thanks to all the parents who volunteered to run games and booths.
Also, thank you to Carol Tensen, sixth-grade teacher, for chairing the talent show.
In addition, Khosravi thanks Jody Gallagher, second-grade teacher, for her audio expertise.

FRANKLIN ELEMENTARY
Ibet Acevedo, Franklin Elementary School PTA president, thanks the Parent Center led by Teresa Gonzales and the many volunteers for making the Franklin Fiesta a great success.
Standardized Testing and Reporting (STAR) testing begins this week and will continue through May 9.
Moms and sons are invited to the First Mother-Son Social from 6 to 8:30 p.m. May 9. Enjoy a night of music, dinner, games, prizes and dancing.
Celebrate Teacher Appreciation Week from May 12 to 16. There will be a teacher luncheon hosted by the PTA on May 14. The next PTA meeting will be at 6:30 p.m. May 13.

JEFFERSON ELEMENTARY

MARK KEPPEL ELEMENTARY
Track C will return to school on Monday, said Betsy Ames, PTA president.
All tracks and traditional classes will be together for the last two months of school. Keppel will be on a traditional calendar beginning in the 2008-2009 school years.
There will be a meeting to vote and install the PTA executive board at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, May 6 in the Toll teacher’s cafeteria. Teacher Appreciation Week will be May 5 to 9.
Tracks C and D will be taking the Standardized Testing and Reporting (STAR) tests May 12 to 23. There will be no school on May 26 in observance of Memorial Day.
