VOLLEYBALL

Crescenta Valley 3, Arcadia 0: The Falcons finished their regular season with a rare sweep of the Apaches in Pacific League play on Thursday at Crescenta Valley, 25-18, 25-18, 25-18.

“Everything came together,” Falcons Coach John Nelson said. “Our serving was on, we looked like a team for the first time this year. It’s been a long time since we swept through Arcadia.”

Crescenta Valley finished the season 11-9 and 8-4 for third place in league and qualified for the CIF Southern Section Division II playoffs.




SOFTBALL

Flintridge Sacred Heart Academy 1, Harvard-Westlake 0: Junior Jessica Ferri stuck out 14 and drove in the winning run in the bottom of the seventh inning with a double to spark the Tologs in a Mission League game Thursday at the Glendale Sports Complex.

Ferri allowed one hit and raised her season strikeout total to 208.

Flintridge Sacred Heart improved to 9-9 and 3-5 in league with league games remaining next week against Louisville and Chaminade.



TRACK AND FIELD

Horizon League finals: Holy Family completed its season Wednesday with a fourth-place finish in the Horizon League finals.

The 4x100-meter relay team of Gladys Hernandez, Valerie Dominguez, Monet Estrada and Melanie Reyes placed fourth in 59.41 seconds.

Reyes placed second in the 100 (19.75) and third in the 400 (1:12.91).

Pacific League prelims: Twenty-nine local track athletes advanced to today’s Pacific League Track and Field finals with strong showings at the league’s preliminaries on Saturday. Preliminaries were held only for track events, not field.

Crescenta Valley High advanced 18 athletes. On the girls’ side, Claire Collison (1,600 meters, first, 5:01; 800, first, 2:18), Rachel Lange (1,600, second, 5:08; 800, second, 2:19), Jessica Beerman (100, fifth, 12.93; 200, eighth, 26.73), Claire Harrison (400, first, 57.15; 200, sixth, 26.39), Holly Wilson (300 hurdles, fourth, 49.10), Michelle Callister (1,600, fifth, 5:25), Megan Doeding (1,600, eighth, 5:31), Carlotta Pham (1,600, ninth, 5:34), Marissa Tessman (400, ninth, 1:03) and Rachelle Blinoff-Mudd all qualified.

For the Falcons boys, Josh Wade (110 hurdles, third, 16.43; 300 hurdles, sixth, 41.83), Zack Torres (1,600, first, 4:24), Brett Matejka (1,600, second, 4:24), Mike Sheridan (800, third, 2:01), Eric Kleinsasser (1,600, fifth, 4:27), Neil Jones (400, seventh, 51.72), Jimmy Jones (300 hurdles, seventh, 42.05) and Eric Ianello (110 hurdles, ninth, 16.96) all moved on.

Hoover had six athletes advance to today’s finals. On the girls’ side, Shannon Azizi (300 hurdles, third, 47.86; 100 hurdles, fifth, 16.85) and Annie Sahl (100, sixth, 13.06) qualified for finals.

The Tornadoes boys saw Harold Tabora (400, sixth, 51.71; 800, seventh, 2:02; 200, ninth, 23.56), Brian Trejo (1,600, seventh, 4:30), Joseph Roach (110 hurdles, eighth, 16.87; 300 hurdles, eighth, 42.24) and Nezhdeh Alaverdyan (100, ninth, 11.46) all pushed forward.

Glendale watched as five athletes sped into the finals. For the girls, Samantha Bogatz (200, third, 25.79; 100, third, 12.75), Perci Goldwire (100 hurdles, fourth, 16.67), Jennifer Dowty (400, sixth, 1:01) and Alin Jabourian (100, seventh, 13.22) kept their league title hopes alive.

Robert Weathers (100, eighth, 11.45) was the lone Nitros boy to move on.

Mission League finals: Amanda Rincon captured a league title for Flintridge Sacred Heart Academy in the 3,200 meters on Thursday, finishing in 12:23.90 and automatically qualifying for the CIF Southern Section Division IV prelims.

Sacred Heart’s Erin Hartwig also qualfied for the CIF prelims with a third-place finish in the 800 (2:24.52).

Glendale resident James Kostelnik of Loyola won the 1,600 (4:17.66) and the 3,200 (9:31.10).
