Glendale Community College 14, Los Angeles Mission College 2: Ellis Bowen hit for the cycle on Tuesday to help the Vaqueros improve to 8-11 in Western State Conference play at L.A. Mission. Glendale college (14-19) is now just three games out of a playoff spot with seven conference contests remaining.
Bowen went four for six with three runs batted in and three runs scored and Chris Arredondo also went four for six at the plate.
Glendale starter Richard Barrett went six innings, allowing two runs on two hits while striking out six, and Byron Pacheco pitched three scoreless innings in relief.
Bryan Jackson (two for five) and Mike Mendoza (two for four) also notched multi-hit games for the Vaqueros.
BOYS’ GOLF
Viewpoint 187, Flintridge Prep 222: Senior Hasan Doxey carded an eight-over-par 42 in a Prep League loss to powerful Viewpoint on Tuesday at the La Cañada Country Club. Andrew Kim and Patrick Hilson each notched 43s for the Rebels (6-9, 2-7 in league).
On Monday, freshman Justin Farshidi had a three-over-par 39 to lead the Rebels to a 222-226 victory over Pasadena Poly in a Prep League match at Brookside Golf Course No. 1. Doxey added a 43 in the win.
BASEBALL
Hoover 22, Verbum Dei 0: The Tornadoes pounded out 17 runs in the second inning to cruise to a nonleague mercy-rule shortened victory on Monday at the MLB Center.
Every starter recorded at least two hits in the contest for the Tornadoes, who improved to 9-5 on the season.
Hoover was paced by Adam Ochart’s home run, two doubles, three runs scored and five runs batted in. Tyler Delzell added four runs scored, three hits, three runs batted in and two stolen bases.
Oscar Aguirre picked up the win for Hoover, which got three hits apiece out of Sako Chapjian and Juan Aguirre.
