GLENDALE — On the brink of winning a second consecutive individual Pacific League championship, Crescenta Valley High boys’ senior golfer Justin Yu led the Falcons to yet another league title and has put himself in phenomenal position to do just the same.

Yu carded a three-under-par 70 on Tuesday in the league’s final team competition at Brookside Golf Course No. 2 in Pasadena.

Yu, who helped the Falcons clinch their fourth consecutive league championship last week, will hold a whopping 10-stroke lead entering the final round of individual competition at 1 p.m. today at the same venue.

He’s got a two-round score of 136.

“Justin is motivated and focused,” said Crescenta Valley Coach John Pehar, whose team carded a 365 on Tuesday and will send six of its athlete’s into today’s 18-hole round. “He just needs to go out there and play because there’s no need to protect his lead.”

Kory Barkley of Crescenta Valley posted a 71 (two-round score of 149) to finish third. Crescenta Valley’s Josh Ward had a 72 (155) to finish in fifth place, Michael McKinley notched an 81 (157) for sixth and Michael Timpson had an 82 (162) to take ninth. Kevin Barkley of Crescenta Valley finished with a 78 (162) to grab 10th.

“Our top three guys combined to shoot even par, so those are excellent scores,” Pehar said. “That’s what they need to do in CIF and to qualify for the regionals.”

Tammy Panich of Glendale carded a 79 (154) to place her fourth overall. Kevin Shim of Hoover registered a 75 (159) to put him in a tie for ninth, while teammate Allen Cho recorded an 86 (174) to place him 23rd.

The top four finishers from today’s competition will move on to the CIF Southern Section Northern Boys’ Individual Regional, which will take place at 7:30 a.m. May 12 at Sterling Hills Country Club in Camarillo.

The Falcons competed without junior Dominic Lingua, who recently suffered a right-shoulder injury in a non-golf related accident, Pehar said. Lingua might return in time to compete in the CIF Southern Section Western Team Divisional, which will begin at 8 a.m. Monday at Montebello Golf Course.

Arcadia placed second in the team competition, which began on April 23, with a 391. Burroughs took third (420), followed by Burbank (426) and Glendale (467).
