Taste of Glendale helps Healthy Kids

Tickets for A Taste of Downtown Glendale are on sale now. For only $25 for adults and $10 for children under age 12, guests can enjoy a family evening of food and entertainment from 5:30 to 8 p.m. May 14. This event is sponsored by Glendale Healthy Kids.
Stroll among 28 great restaurants on and around Brand Boulevard. Visit Fast Frame and taste the food of New Moon, while Massage Envy will be hosting Latin fusion cuisine from Sabor.
All the while, you’ll be serenaded by music from the Crescenta Valley, Hoover and Glendale High School bands. In addition, the Glen Roberts Big Band and the Latino Boyz will be on hand to entertain guests. An added attraction will be raffle baskets donated by Nestlé USA, and the tickets are free.

LINCOLN ELEMENTARY
The chorus will perform songs from “The Sound of Music” during a concert beginning at 7 p.m. May 14 in the auditorium.
Students and families are encouraged to help beautify the school on Campus Clean-up Day at 8:30 a.m. Saturday. Volunteers can meet on the playground.
The community is invited to Open House and the Silent Auction beginning at 6 p.m. May 22. The Silent Auction is a fundraiser for the Foundation and includes gift baskets from each classroom as well as products and services from local businesses.
The pace really picks up at 11 a.m. May 23, when the playground transforms itself into a roarin’, snortin’ race track for the annual Lincoln 500. First-, second- and third-graders will race around the track on tricycles, while fourth-, fifth- and sixth-graders serve as crew members.
MOUNTAIN AVENUE ELEMENTARY
Mountain Avenue Committed to Kids (MACK) will host International Night In from 6 to 9 p.m. Saturday. This is a fundraising dinner held in the cafeteria. “Boarding Passes” are $30 each and include an entree, salad, bread, dessert and beverage.
Thanks to outgoing PTA President Tiffany Hale for the amazing job she has done the past two years. New president Sandy Russell and the incoming board members will be installed at the PTA Installation Brunch on May 15. Contact the school office for more details.
MONTE VISTA ELEMENTARY
Staff Appreciation Week kicks off May 12 with the PTA offering a variety of lunch and brunch treats.
Foundation meets at 7 p.m. May 13 in the cafetorium.
The last can collection event will be held on May 20. There is also a School Site Council Meeting at 7 p.m. that day in the teachers’ lounge. Contact the office for more information.
Orchestra performances will be presented to students at 9:30 and 10:45 a.m. May 21, and an evening performance for families will be held at 6:30 p.m. at Rosemont Middle School.

Congratulations to Honorary Service Award winners Jamie Hammer, Debbie Munsey, Maria Bonino Britsch, Liz Schetina, Sherri Downer and Jeanni Rosellen.
The incoming PTA Board for 2008-2009 is President Anne Beachey-Kemp; First Vice President Liz Schetina; Second Vice President Betsy Wilbur; Third Vice President Amy Harley; Secretary Maria Bonino Britsch; Treasurer Patty Flannagan; Auditor Frances DeRoche; Parliamentarian Katherine Wallace and Historians Olympia Turchin and Raquel Rodriguez Wright. Paige Farmer will serve as assistant to the president.
The next PTA meeting is scheduled for 10 a.m. Wednesday in the auditorium.

At the recent Founders Day event, Continuing Service Awards went to Cathy Turansky, Kathi Reeser and Christine Collins-Cross. Honorary Service Awards were presented to Karen Van Treese, Mojean McGinnis, Seung Au Hong and Aida Mousesian. Student Carrie Ostler received a Very Special Person award.

The PTSA is hosting “The 12 Principles of Success” with Professor Jerome Carter from Loyola Marymount University at 7 p.m. May 22 in the auditorium.
A synopsis of the seminar states, “Through these principles, parents and students are given strategies to be successful at home and at school. Parents are also given strategies to help them work together with the school, as well as with community resources and organizations.
