LOS ALTOS AUXILIARY INSTALLS NEW OFFICERS

Los Altos Auxiliary recently had its annual installation luncheon at Oakmont Country Club in Glendale. Julie McCarty of La Crescenta, outgoing president, thanked all members and presented each board member with a bouquet of pink roses.

Los Altos Auxiliary supports Hathaway-Sycamores Child and Family Services, an agency that provides hope for children in vulnerable situations and guidance for families struggling through tough times.

Projects that Los Altos was able to help fund this year for Hathaway-Sycamores included a silk-screening vocation project, the Pace therapy bike project, a swimming program, a PBS program and high school and junior high school graduation ceremonies.

The new president JuliAnn Stitick of La Cañada Flintridge introduced her new board, including First Vice President of programs Julie McCarty and Laurie Rodli of La Cañada Flintridge; Second Vice President of fundraising Michele Sanchez of Los Angeles; Secretary Susie Ratliff of La Cañada Flintridge; and Treasurer Andi Sica of Chatsworth.

Laurie Rodli introduced the six new members: Julie Johnson of Glendale (sponsor JuliAnn Stitick), Jaime Gertmenian of San Marino (sponsor Betty Stanfill), Joy Lang of La Crescenta (sponsor Julie McCarty), Susan Peterman of La Cañada Flintridge (sponsor Laurie Rodli), MariAnn Lantieri of La Cañada Flintridge (sponsor Betty Stanfill) and Sue Slater of Pasadena (sponsor Laurie Rodli).

Laurie Rodli also announced that Kelly Williams is now an active member.

Guest speaker Bill Martone, president and chief executive of Hathaway-Sycamores, expressed his gratitude and thanks to Los Altos for their accomplishments on behalf of the children served by the agency. He noted that Los Altos has raised $400,000 for Hathaway-Sycamores since 1994.

POLICE DOGS DEMONSTRATE FOR WOMEN’S COUNCIL

From narcotics and explosive training to suspect apprehension and obedience, officers Robert Wynkoop and Aaron Hamilton from the Glendale Police Department Canine Unit talked about their daily training with their K-9 companions Marlin and Quwai, during a recent Verdugo Hills Hospital Foundation’s Women’s Council luncheon at the hospital.

Demonstrations were presented by the K-9 officers and their handlers in order to show their dogs’ skills, capabilities and response to commands.

The dogs and their handlers were so professional and seemed so bonded to one another, said Sue Wilder, Women’s Council program chair.

The love these officers have for their dogs is so obvious, and it is wonderful to see how each team works together, said Chris Mason, chair of the Women’s Council.

The Women’s Council has about 65 members who live in the surrounding foothill communities and have backgrounds ranging from medicine, business, education and community leadership.

For membership information, call (818) 952-2228.

The Glendale Police K-9 unit is funded solely through donations from community organizations, businesses and private citizens.
