A pipe that was found Thursday in front a La Crescenta home -- prompting a response by bomb investigators -- turned out to have been struck by a passing car and launched toward the house, officials said.
The pipe was discovered about 1:36 p.m. in the 5400 block of Briggs Avenue after a loud explosion was heard, according to Sgt. Burton Brink of the Crescenta Valley Sheriff’s Department.
No one was injured during the incident.
Deputies found what initially appeared to be a pipe bomb broken in front of the home, prompting them to shut down the area as sheriff’s Arson and Explosives investigators examined the scene, he added.
Apparently, a car driving through the area struck the pipe in the street, causing it to hurl toward the home and the window, according to Brink.
The loud explosion was the result of the pipe hitting the window.
