The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s bomb squad detonated a pipe bomb Saturday night that belonged to a Glendale man in his 40s.
The man, whose name was not released, drove to Glendale Police headquarters at 9 p.m. Saturday with the pipe bomb in his car to turn it over, officials said.
“He was coming seeking assistance and advice,” Glendale Police Sgt. Tom Lorenz said.
When Glendale officers discovered the pipe bomb in the car, they blocked off access to the building and the 100 block of N. Isabel St. and called the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s bomb squad for assistance.
At midnight, the bomb squad used sandbags to detonate the bomb and it was rendered safe, Lorenz said. No one was injured.
The man was given a mental evaluation, arrested for possession of an explosive device and booked in jail on $500,000 bail.
