Glendale firefighters hung up their uniforms and gear to take to the runway in trendy outfits for an inaugural fundraiser on Saturday.

Donning menswear fashions at the Glendale Galleria, rookie modeling efforts by local fire crew members raised $20,000 for the Glendale Fire Foundation.

More than 200 people came to see the 35 firefighters, including Chief Harold Scoggins, make their way down the runway.

“The firefighters were excited and came out with a great attitude and had fun, which in turn got the audience going as well,” said Anita Shandi, a public safety business specialist with the Glendale Fire Department.

The idea for the fundraiser came about when Scoggins ran into Nancy Lueck, a regional director for Bloomingdale’s, and decided to partner up for the project, with the department store providing the featured attire, she said.

“The event was a huge success,” Shandi said. “The firefighters had a great time and the community was out in full force to support the [Glendale Fire Department].”

Money raised came from corporate sponsorships, product donations and a portion of sales for the day from Bloomingdale’s, she said.
