A 21-year-old Glendale woman fought off a man who tried to steal her cellphone Wednesday outside a Starbucks coffee shop, police said.

She was seated with her friend in the coffee shop’s patio area about 7:40 p.m. in the 900 block of South Central Avenue, where they first spotted the man leaning against a light pole and staring at them, according to Glendale police spokeswoman Tahnee Lightfoot.

The woman was preparing to use her cellphone, when he suddenly walked behind her and tried to pull it out of her left hand, she added.

But she fought back and pulled the phone away from him.

That’s when the man allegedly grabbed her friend’s Samsung Galaxy 3 cellphone, which was resting on a table.

He ran away and was last seen on Acacia Avenue.

The man was described as Latino with facial hair, between 6 feet and 6 feet 2, 160 to 200 pounds and 20 to 25 years old.

He wore shorts, a hooded sweatshirt and pants, which were all black.
