Arson detectives are investigating what sparked a fire that significantly damaged a single-family home in the 700 block of East Garfield Avenue Wednesday night.

The residential fire was reported at 9:31 p.m. and the flames were extinguished by 10:08 p.m., said Glendale Fire Battalion Chief Bill Lynch.

Twenty-seven firefighters worked the house fire, which burned between two apartment buildings, Lynch said.

No evacuations were necessary and firefighters were able to extinguish the flames before they could spread to neighboring structures, he said.

Lynch said the unoccupied structure was slated to be torn down.

The cause of the fire is being investigated by arson detectives from the Glendale Police Department.

No injuries were reported.
