A significant amount of jewelry was stolen in a home burglary Thursday night while the residents were out for a few hours, police said.

The break-in and theft were reported at 10:30 p.m. in the 1300 block of Rossmoyne Avenue, said Glendale Police spokeswoman Tahnee Lightfoot.

An investigation revealed that the occupants left the home at 8:30 p.m. and returned two hours later to find a window had been pried open and furniture was moved around, Lightfoot said.

They later found the master bedroom ransacked and jewelry boxes had been emptied, she said.

Neighbors were interviewed by officers, but they did not see any suspects or suspicious activity in the area.

In addition to home burglary prevention tips such as installing an alarm system and securing sliding doors, the Glendale Police Department reminds residents that a vacation-check service is available.

Officers will conduct a routine check of a home if the owners are away for an extended period of time.

A vacation check request can be made by calling (818) 548-4818.
