A 53-year-old male transient from Santa Monica was arrested Thursday and booked under suspicion of attempted murder in connection with the stabbing of a woman on a busy street in Glendale, police said.

Michael Caudill is being held on $1 million bail, Glendale Police Sgt. Tom Lorenz said.

The woman, who hasn’t been identified by police, suffered a non-life-threatening stab wound to her upper torso and was transported to a nearby hospital for treatment, he said.

Police received numerous 911 calls from witnesses about the stabbing just before 10:30 a.m. at San Fernando Road and Pacific Avenue.

Officers arrived in the area and found the injured woman. Caudill had reportedly stabbed her while she was waiting to cross the street with her 17-year-old daughter, Lorenz said.

Witnesses were immediately able to provide a description of her alleged attacker, which prompted police to begin a search.

Police found Caudill, who matched the witnesses’ descriptions, in the 4400 block of San Fernando Road. He was reportedly hauling his belongings in luggage.

The investigation into the incident continues, Lorenz said.

This is not Caudill’s first interaction with Glendale police. In February 1997, the then 36-year-old killed a Burbank resident when the van he was driving slammed into another vehicle near the corner of Verdugo Road and Colorado Street. Caudill was fleeing from police, who were responding to a domestic violence call.

According to court records, Caudill was convicted of manslaughter, evading police and drug charges in June of that year.
