Thieves stole costly jewelry, credit cards and money Tuesday from homes in separate residential burglaries, police said.

Police believe the burglaries occurred between 6 a.m. and 7 p.m. in the 700 block of Portola Avenue and the 1200 block of North Everett Street.

Thieves reportedly forced their way into the Portola home through the front door and stole cash and jewelry.

In the Everett burglary, thieves broke through the home’s rear door, which activated an alarm system, according to Glendale spokeswoman Tahnee Lightfoot.

But she said thieves tore the alarm panel off the wall and placed it in running water in a bathroom.

Detectives are still trying to determine the amount of loss in the burglaries.
