Rep. Adam Schiff (D-Burbank) is participating in this year's AIDS/LifeCycle, a 545-mile bike ride from San Francisco to Los Angeles, to raise money and awareness for research and treatment.

The congressman said he attended the closing ceremony for last year's ride and he couldn't have been more impressed with the determination of the riders and the generosity of the donors.

"I'm fortunate to represent a district with a large and vibrant LGBT community, and many of my constituents have received the highest quality care and services from the LA LGBT Center, one of the main beneficiaries of the ride," he said in a statement. "I have been to the center. I have seen the amazing work they do every day, and I know they have been a lifeline to people living with HIV."

The AIDS/LifeCycle ride started 13 years ago and the trip from San Francisco to Los Angeles takes seven days. The ride continues through June 7.
