Photos: Furloughs close DMV offices

Residents hoping to take care of business at the Glendale Department of Motor Vehicles on Friday experienced a different kind of disappointment when they arrived. There may not have been the usual long line snaking out onto the sidewalk, but that???s because the office was closed. It was similar scene throughout the state as DMV branches adhered to state-ordered furlough days. Bur for the DMV at 1335 W. Glenoaks Blvd., the closure will remain in effect for more than two months as crews install a number of upgrades at the aging facility. The branch's 51 employees have been reassigned to nearby DMV offices to help with increased customer traffic. The Glendale branch, which officials say hasn???t undergone a major renovation since 1961, is scheduled to reopen Nov. 1 after crews finish the nearly $900,000 project. The DMV branch serves an average 1,200 customers every day.
