Boxing returns to the Jewel City on Saturday, Aug. 9 as Top Rank Boxing, in association with Bash Boxing and Art of Boxing Promotions is featuring Solo Boxeo Tecate at the Civic Center, beginning at 6 p.m.

Undefeated Mexican-American heavyweight prospect Andy “The Destroyer” Ruiz Jr. (22-0, 16 knockouts) headlines the action and will be defending his NABF and WBO Intercontinental Heavyweight title against veteran Nagy “Dominican Dynamite” Aguilera (19-9, 13 KOs).

Ruiz is a former amateur standout and Mexican Olympian who’s climbed up the pro ranks and is coming off knockouts of Manueal Quezada (28-9), Tor Hamer (21-2) and former undefeated prospect Joe Hanks (21-0).

Ruiz is currently second-ranked in the WBO and No. 11 overall in the WBC.

Aguilera has a few notable victories under his belt, including in 2009 when he knocked out former WBC champion Oleg Maskaev. Aguilera has also fought a talented array of fighters, including Tomasz Adamek, Antonio Tarver, Chris Arreola, Samuel Peter and Dominic Breazeale.

The co-main event will feature undefeated San Antonio prospect Ivan “Bam Bam” Najera (13-0, eight KOs) versus former top-ranked amateur Stan “The Man” Martyniouk (13-1, two KOs).

Also on the undercard, 2012 London Olympics silver medalist Esquiva Falcoa (3-0, one KO) faces hard-hitting Mike Noreiga (4-4, four KOs), a battle of unbeatens will take place between Egidijus Kavaliauskas (6-0, five KOs) and Benjamin Whitaker (7-0, two KOs). Zachary “Kid Yamaka” Wohlman (8-1-1), Liam Vaughan (8-2) and Edgar Valerio (3-0) are also slated.

This is the fifth professional boxing event since the city of Glendale lifted its one-time 60-year ban.

A limited number of VIP bottle service tables are also available. Doors open at 5:30pm with the first bout at 6. All bouts are subject to change.
