Holy Family 41, Chavez 38: The Gaels are winless no more after defeating Cesar Chavez in pool play action of the Grant Tournament on Thursday afternoon.
“It feels awesome,” Gaels Coach Ernest Siy said of the victory. “Now we know what it tastes like to win and hopefully we’ll get some more.”
Holy Family next faces Village Christian at 3 p.m. on Friday back at Grant High in Van Nuys.
Valencia 60, Glendale 22: The Nitros fell in opening-round action of the West Coast Holiday Classic at Alemany.
With the defeat, Glendale falls to 4-6 this season. Glendale is back in action at 4:30 p.m. on Friday.
St. Francis 70, Franklin 42: Kyle Leufroy led the way with 17 points as the Golden Knights opened up bracket play of the San Gabriel Valley Classic Tournament with a win on Thursday evening.
Evan Crawford added 13 points and Noah Willerford chipped in 12 points for St. Francis (8-2), which next plays on Friday at 7:30 p.m. versus either Ayala or Monrovia.
Hacienda Heights Wilson 60, Hoover 57: Teo Davidian finished with 24 points and Argin Sarkissian added 12 on Thursday for the Tornadoes (6-3) in an opening-round contest of the Whittier Tournament.
Flintridge Prep in Ontario Christian Tournament: The Rebels went 1-1 in opening day action of the Ontario Christian Christmas Classic on Thursday.
Flintridge Prep opened with a 3-2 victory over Murrieta Calvary thanks in part to a goal and assist from senior forward Cole Rademacher, while Henry Griffith and Michael Weinstein added goals.
The victory came despite the Rebels only having 12 players suited.
A little later in the afternoon, Flintridge (6-3) fell versus Arrowhead Christian, 3-0.
The Rebels are back in action Thursday at noon against an opponent to be determined.
Hoover 5, San Dimas 0: The Tornados earned advancement to the semifinals of the Don Lugo Tournament after a victory on Thursday morning.
Kevin De Paz led Hoover (3-2) with two goals, while Andrew Perez added a score.
Hoover next faces Sierra Vista at 8 a.m. on Friday.
