Hoover 10, Garfield 2: The host Tornadoes picked up a victory Wednesday in the Southern California Invitational. Hoover (5-2) received two hits and two runs batted in from Scott Yzamotegui. Starting pitcher Jonathan Ramos allowed two runs in five innings to improve to 2-1.

Granada Hills 1, Crescenta Valley 0: The Falcons fell to 4-4 with Tuesday night’s Babe Herman Tournament loss at Stengel Field.

Crescenta Valley picked up a 6-5 tournament win against Diamond Ranch on Monday. Bryan Wang had the game-winning run batted in on a groundout to score Kevin Hello. Hello had three runs and two stolen bases, while Michael Russo had two runs and three stolen bases.

Joe Torres got the victory on the mound, while Kewin Ledesma had a RBI double, Austin Brines had a RBI and Adrian Damla scored a run.

On Saturday, Crescenta Valley began the tournament with a 6-3 defeat against La Salle. Adrian Damla had a two-run double for the Falcons.

La Salle 7, Glendale 0: The Nitros dropped to 2-6 with Tuesday’s loss in the Babe Herman Tournament.

Harvard-Westlake 16, St. Francis 0: The Golden Knights opened up Mission League play Monday with a loss on the road.

BOYS’ VOLLEYBALL

Flintridge Prep 3, Webb 0: The Rebels began Prep League play Tuesday with a 25-21, 25-12, 25-23 home win. Dante Fregoso finished with 11 kills and three aces for the Rebels, who improved to 7-4.

On Monday, the visiting Rebels (6-4) fell, 25-16, 17-25, 26-28, 25-23, 16-18, to St. Genevieve in a nonleague match. Fregoso had 26 kills for the Rebels, who got 17 from Trip Westmoreland.

Crescenta Valley wins San Gabriel Tournament: The Falcons captured the two-day event Saturday with a 25-18, 25-22 victory against Downey Calvary Chapel in the title contest at San Gabriel High.

Crescenta Valley reached the title match with a 25-17, 25-23 semifinal win against Pacific League rival Burbank. The Falcons earned a 25-19, 25-12 quarterfinal win against Canyon Country Canyon after earning a 21-15, 25-19, 25-17 victory against Montebello.

In pool-play matches Friday, the Falcons got a 25-17, 24-26, 15-10 win against Brentwood. They also earned pool-play victories against Glenn (25-19, 25-22) and Rio Hondo Prep (25-20, 20-13) at Alhambra High.

“It’s a cool thing,” said Crescenta Valley Coach John Nelson, whose team improved to 10-0 and won the program’s first tournament since capturing the Culver City Tournament in 2005.

Crescenta Valley senior setter Chris Han was named the tournament’s most valuable player. Crescenta Valley junior outside hitters Min Kim and Raymond Barsemian were named to the all-tournament team.

BOYS’ TENNIS

St. Francis 18, Crespi 0: Host St. Francis picked up a Mission League victory Monday at Fremont Tennis Center. The Golden Knights improved to 7-1, 1-1 in league.
