I agree with Adam Schiff that the United States should formally recognize the Armenian Genocide at the hands of the Turks.

Similarly the United States has or should recognize other genocides, such as the Nazi's slaughter of Jews, gypsies, Cambodians, et al. In this way, we can forgive but not forget. But, by allowing the current horrific African genocides, we have forgotten or don't care that genocide has not been eradicated and by failing to act, all of those who have died in those atrocities have died in vain.
