1. As temperature rises, so do seasonal job prospects

Growing up, your ideal summer job may have been lifeguard at the local pool, concession worker at an amusement park or counselor at an overnight camp. You were just looking for anything that got you outside and in the sun. As an adult, your idea of what makes a good seasonal position has probably changed – a steady paycheck, interesting work and an opportunity for long-term employment may be higher on the list of priorities. Perhaps No. 1 on the list is just getting a job.

  5. College grads take jobs once held by high school grads

The recovering economy has left a high amount of recent college graduates looking for work in a competitive job market, which may in part have led to a number of college grads seeking jobs primarily held by high school grads. A recent CareerBuilder survey of more than 2,600 employers nationwide found that 32 percent of hiring managers and human resource professionals said they are hiring more employees with college degrees for positions that were historically held by high school graduates.

Twenty-six percent of employers plan to increase full-time, permanent headcount in Q2, on par with the previous two quarters, but trending below Q2 estimates last year. While the U.S. job market has been moving in a positive direction—each year in the recovery improving upon the previous one—employers are waiting to see how government spending cuts, health care reform, debt restructuring in Europe and other issues will play out before intensifying their hiring efforts.

  21. Global job forecast for 2013

CareerBuilder’s first annual global job forecast looks at hiring plans and financial positions of employers in the 10 largest world economies. When it comes to areas of job growth, the U.S. will focus hiring on sales, information technology and customer service positions, while China’s attention will be on sales, research and development and production. From a fiscal perspective, India, Brazil and China have the highest number of employers in a better financial position than one year ago, while France, Japan and Italy report the lowest numbers. The overall hiring picture is improving, but companies will remain watchful as they navigate headwinds and maneuver through somewhat precarious economic terrain.
