  1. DVD Review: 'Hugo' doesn't disappoint

Martin Scorsese's "Hugo" — one of last year's best films — hits home video, straight off its ups and downs at the Oscars: five wins out of 11 nominations isn't anything to complain about, except the other six included all the biggest categories.

  3. On the Town: Foundation dances with diamonds

The Glendale Educational Foundation did more than “Dancing with Diamonds” Friday evening. It gave them away, honored them and collected them to the tune of $50,000 in expected proceeds. On Friday (Feb. 17), the Glendale Hilton Hotel staff pushed out the dividers into their largest ballroom to accommodate more than 350 supporters in sipping, supping and socializing, all in the name of educating our Glendale youngsters.

  7. He put the 'wah' in rock 'n' roll

You've probably seen Del Casher, sporting a yachtsman's cap as he cruises around town in his fire-engine-red sedan, and never given him a second look. But the 73-year-old musician, who operates a sound studio on Magnolia Boulevard in Burbank, is one of the most critical secret weapons in America's pop music arsenal.

  9. DVD Review: Billy Wilder's 'The Apartment'

Another great black-and-white classic gets the Blu-ray treatment, and the visual difference between this and the older DVD release is pretty obvious. (The sound, however, is just adequate; maybe it couldn't be upgraded.) Billy Wilder's “The...

  15. The Valley Line: A new year and new beginnings

Here we are into the second week of January already. I reluctantly removed the ornaments from my tree, wrapping each one carefully in tissue paper. I always hate putting them away because they are so magical and representative of places I’ve been in the world and memories of family times. It will be an entire year before I see them again.
