1. Think Again: Hypocrisy at its worst

It’s a problem when the only news source that tells it like it is, with no holding back, is "The Daily Show with Jon Stewart." Watching the show is like a ritual of exposing the hypocrisy with the political leadership of our country.

  3. On the Town: Marilyn Monroe sings for hospital CEO

Marilyn Monroe look-alike Ruth McNevin kicked off the Verdugo Hills Hospital Foundation luncheon by singing “Happy Birthday” to Chief Executive Len LaBella. The bit was reminiscent of the real Marilyn singing “Happy Birthday, Mr. President” to John F. Kennedy. Since Verdugo Hills Hospital has its own “president” in LaBella, those in the know got the joke.

  5. Taken For Granted: One man's space junk is another's history

Lift off. Astronaut Buzz Aldrin and I were pulling G’s and climbing toward the stars. And that’s the closest I ever got to space travel — sharing an elevator ride with this famous voyager to the moon. I was 15 when the Russians launched...

  11. Small Wonders: Honoring Old Glory

The flattening rays of the setting sun hit me from the west as I drove up the Glendale (2) Freeway into Montrose. From seemingly nowhere, a flock of snowy doves performed aerial acrobatics overhead. And on the seat beside me was Old Glory. "Old" being the...

  15. President, to president, to president

"You will be our president when you read this note," George Herbert Walker Bush wrote to Bill Clinton, the man who defeated him in the 1992 campaign, denying Bush the provisional vindication that reelection provides until history has its chance to judge from a distance. Nonetheless, in Oval Office tradition, Bush left a note for Clinton to read on taking office, and it echoed the message of transitions past, even between bitter political rivals: "I am rooting hard for you."
